Work Visa requirements in Singapore:
Nationals of certain countries can visit Singapore for up to 3 months without a visa but will need to be granted a work visa or permit to take up an employment.
Visa requirements and the number of working holiday visas allocated in countries each year vary considerably. Besides, new agreements are being made regularly. So it is always recommended to get up-to-date official information from the Embassy or Consulate before making any work and travel plans.
All foreigners wishing to live and work in Singapore must have a work permit or an employment pass (like a visa), which must be obtained on their behalf by their employers. The work permit is for those whose basic monthly salary is $2,500 S or less. To apply for an employment pass, the applicant must have a salary of more than $2,501 S per month. The employer must also apply for a dependent's pass for the employee’s dependents. Permission to live in Singapore is included in the employment pass and dependent's pass, rather than as a separate visa. Various programs offered by the government facilitate expatriates to apply for a permanent residence visa either before coming to Singapore or after starting work in Singapore.
Employment authorization is granted to foreign nationals who will contribute to Singapore's economic development either because of a desired skill or difficulty in recruiting Singapore citizens or permanent residents to perform those services.
‘Regularization’ of immigration status from Visitor to Work Status
A foreign national employee may convert his or her immigration status from a visitor to an Employment Pass holder while remaining in Singapore. The employee may be present in Singapore while the Employment Pass application is being processed. However, the employee will not have authorization to work (unless a Temporary Employment Pass is granted at the discretion of the Singapore Ministry of Manpower). Once the Employment Pass application is approved, the employee must provide the necessary documentation, such as a health declaration form or Medical Report (depending on the Pass type), his or her passport and disembarkation card, in order to collect the Employment Pass from the Ministry of Manpower.
Types of Work Visas:
There are four types of Employment Passes - P1, P2, Q1 and S.
Foreigners from Asian Countries including India, CIS countries, Russia holding travel documents will require a visa to enter Singapore.
A need for top talent exists in consumer banking, wealth management, capital markets and treasury, transactional banking (especially in trade finance and, to a certain extent, cash management), and risk management. Across the spectrum of job types, revenue-generation and product-management roles at the middle to senior level are in greater demand than operational support.
Singapore's foreign exchange market is the fourth largest in the world, next to London, New York, and Tokyo. Singapore relies on foreign workers and talents at both ends of the skills ladder. Singapore aims to continue to lure global talent and top management to its shores, most significantly in IT jobs and the technology industry. Singapore has introduced a new class of taxpayers called ‘not ordinarily resident’, who will earn tax exemptions on income earned outside of the country.
